Bought Sears CompressorBought Sears Compressor
Got this 30 gal. Air Compressor, 6 hp, Vertical Tank, Oil Free Pump (Sears # 16731) on sale at Sears for $277, it's regularly $329.99. Very easy to purchase stuff online. You can have it delivered or pick up the item yourself at the closet Sears store. Update! After talking to some other builders and reading stuff posted on the Vans Air Force website, I realized that I should have gotten an oiled compressor. They are indeed quieter and will last longer than the one I purchased. If you do get an non-oiled compressor, and shown on the left, you will need to build a vented sound chamber around it. It is one loud "muther".

This is the compressor I should have gotten:
Found a plan for soundproofing air compressorsFound a plan for soundproofing air compressors
I plan to build this sound box for my new air compressor because that dude is so LOUD! I am going to use 3/4 CD Plywood, wood screws and a foam rubber mattress cover for additional sound proofing.
Here's my idea for the box I'm going to buildHere's my idea for the box I'm going to build
The whole thing will 3/4 inch CD plywood. I will make some kind of removeable top for it. The 2 verticle sheets of plywood on the right side of the drawing will form somewhat of an air duct to handle the airflow that will be sucked in through the vent opening on the lower right. The fart fan on the lower left of the drawing will provide the "suck". That should keep the motor cool.
