Ready for riveting!Ready for riveting!
I noticed on a lot of other builders websites that they flipped the tailcone over for riveting. Sounds good to me. I'm glad I bought the Avery pneumatic cleco tool. That's a lot clecos! By the time I got to this part, my right hand was pretty cotton-pickin' sore.
Making sure things are level (because my garage sure ain't)Making sure things are level (because my garage sure ain't)
I used a level and some wood shims to level up all the saw horses. Then I duct-taped everything down, including the front end of the tailcone.
It's Oil Can Harry! It's Oil Can Harry!
I read on some of the email groups that this sometimes happens. The middle section of the bottom skin oil cans. Some have said that it came out when everything got riveted, some said it didn't. I've heard that you can hear this dude poping in and out while flying. That ain't cool. I still have some J-stringers left over from the wing kit. So I may put them in the middle of the bottom skin.

I put on my ear protectors and crawled underneath and bucked rivets while my good buddy Norwood pounded away from above. After we got the bottom done, we flipped the tailcone over and I have been riveting by myself with the bucking bar and rivet gun on each side. Only a few more rivets to go!
