Ready to Prime!Ready to Prime!
All the firewall parts have been deburred, edges scotchbrited (is that a word?) and are now ready for the old rattle can primer. Gas mask please...
Whoa, hold the phone!!Whoa, hold the phone!!
My good buddy Mike emailed me and informed me that I didn't put these holes in the F-601J brackets. Dang, that was close. That could have been a major pain in the bahootie later on. Thanks Mike!
Time for riveting everything togetherTime for riveting everything together
I remember the lesson I learned from backriveting the elevators. If it worked there, it should work here. I got my 1/4 inch steel plate out and cut out a piece of 3/4 inch plywood the same size as the steel plate. Then I taped both of them together. Think I'm nuts?, just wait...
Taped some of the smaller rivets into position for back rivetingTaped some of the smaller rivets into position for back riveting
I know these small dudes work. I'm not so sure about the 1/8 inch rivets. (We'll find out later...)
Backriveted one of the stiffeners to test it outBackriveted one of the stiffeners to test it out
I was a little tricky making sure that the steel backplate was in position, but so far, so good.
Thar' tis! Plum purdy!! (That's Texan for it turned out nice)Thar' tis! Plum purdy!! (That's Texan for it turned out nice)
Couldn't ask for anything better. I'm going to experiment with backriveting an 1/8" rivet tomorrow. I'm not sure if it will work like the 3/32" rivets. So be sure and tune in tomorrow to see wah' happens.
