Finished dimpling and sanding the inboard top skinFinished dimpling and sanding the inboard top skin
To break the edge of the skin, I have 1x2 block of wood with some 180 grit sandpaper on it. I lightly sand the edges of the skin on a 45 degree angle and then come back with some 400 grit sandpaper to finish rounding of the edges.
Finished dimpling and sanding the inboard doubler plateFinished dimpling and sanding the inboard doubler plate
The doubler plate was the same thickness as the outboard wing skin, so I able to use my pop-rivet dimplers on it. The doubler plate goes between the inboard top skin and the wing ribs. The wings ribs are positioned just a few inches apart. This provides extra strength for the pilot and passenger to walk on the wing when entering and exiting the aircraft. Now it’s time to do the bottom skins.
